Planning

Over 200 new homes together with a rich mosaic of community uses and coordinated public realm that will celebrate the relationship between city living and the character of the surrounding South Downs. Set amongst green streets and landscaped squares, residents will be able to fulfil their day-to-day needs in a sustainable and environmentally conscious way that will enrich people’s lives and well-being.

Our masterplan design for Moulsecoomb demonstrates how modern public realm and landscape design techniques can aid in integration of the built form, space, movement and use by creating a series of sustainable components. These components produce a beautiful, enduring and adaptable masterplan for the whole site.

Working from feasibility (including LVIA support) through to stage 4 design we have helped to create a pedestrian friendly environment. Alongside the Community Hub building and mixed apartments a series of connected squares and pocket parks will encourage residents to convene and socialise with allowance for children’s play, a skate plaza, al fresco dining ‘cafe’, communal growing terraces and a dedicated sports hub next to the existing leisure centre.

Throughout this community project, working within a  multi disciplinary team (local authority / private consultancy design team) has shown the importance of communication through regular workshops & consultation meetings with individuals from various backgrounds from local stakeholders to community groups.

This has allowed constructive insights to be acquired to explore further creative opportunities within the design development, this  leads to a strong overarching design ethos, and a result that fits the aspirations and vision of all parties.

This has informed cohesive design decisions and solved problems through key phases of the project.

Key aspects of the design:

  • To integrate strong green infrastructure through out the site to mimic and relate to the surrounding South Downs landscape within an urban setting.
  • Provide vital opportunities for strong tree planting and robust amenity planting to adapt over time showing climate resilience and to create a balance between the built form and landscape.
  • Working with the complex topography of the site to allow the creation of vital green spaces and public realm opportunities throughout to enhance the local residents lifestyle and further improve access and connectivity.
